the highest safety and quality standards.Changesin terms of environmental protection, customer benefits and designrender necessary continuous development of systems and components.Such developments can result in differences betweenthis Workbook andthe vehicles used for demonstration purposes5、 in the training course. This documentation relates exclusively to left-hand drive vehicles withEuropean specifications. In vehicles with right-hand drive, thearrangement of some controls or components may differ from theillustrations in this Workbook.Further differences may arise as the resultof the junction8、 box as a gateway, the system overviews of the vehicle systemare more or less identical. The only minordifferences between the R56/R55 vehiclesystems are the new additional control unitsand the modified order of the MOST controlunits.Thefollowingchangeshavebeenmadetothevarious bus systems:Changes to t9、he PT-CANIn the R55,DSC is provided as standard.ASC+T and ABS control units are thereforenotincludedinthebusoverviewforR55.IntheR56,ABS and ASC+T are still available. In March 2007,the new diesel engine W16has been implemented in the R56.In addition, the 6-gear automatic gearbox has beenoffered for th10、e R56 since January 2007.TheW16 diesel engine and the 6-gear automaticgearbox are also used in the R55.The DDEandEGScontrolunitsarethereforeintegratedin the PT-CAN.Changes to the MOSTThe High-level interface box has been addedto the MOST network.SBX High enables theconnection of various end devices 11、such asmobilephonesviaBluetoothandUSBdevices(MP3 players,USB sticks, etc.)via the USBinterface. In USA vehicles, the installation location ofDAB or IBOC is on the left of the luggagecompartment in the R55,and not on the rightas in the R56.The MOST port for R55/R56 islocated above the junction box and n12、o longerabove the footwell module. The MOSTconfiguration is therefore different to thatshown in the product information for the R56.This modified configuration also applies forthe R56.Changes to the K-CANThe AHM control unit is new.The trailercoupling is offered as an option for the R55 insome market13、s.For the R56,the trailer moduleis only available as an optional accessory.Since the legal guidelines in the USA arefulfilled by the electronic immobilizer fitted asstandard, the ELV is not included in USAvehicles.Changes to the K busInvehicleswithdieselengines, theCarAccessSystem 3 with an EWS 3 inte14、rface is currentlyused.TheCASandDDEarethereforedirectlyconnected via a K bus.In the future, newengines will also be converted to the power supply to thetrailer socket are controlled by the AHM trailermodule. The AHM trailer module is a K-CANparticipant.The AHM control unit is installed on the right-hand side of the luggage compartment.Whentowingatrailer,thetrailer28、modulesendsthe information to the PDC that a trailer isattached to the vehicle. The PDC hides theultrasonic sensors for the rear end of thevehicle.3The PDC comprises the followingcomponents:High-level interface box(SBX High)Audio socket with USB interface Application software on the head unit.Communication between the SBX Highinterf31、ace and the mobile telephone takesplace via the Bluetooth aerial. The SBX High interface communicates withMP3 players and USB sticks via the USB(Universal Serial Bus)interface.A special iPodadapter cable is available for connecting anApple iPod.Just as the previous SBX,the SBX High offersthe option t32、o fit a mobile phone in a charger inthe centre arm rest.As well as charging thebattery, this also enables use of the externalvehicleaerial.Thisrequiresanadditionalsnap-in adapter. The telephone function can be operated byvoice input. In vehicles with Radio MINI BoostCD(RAD2),the SBX High provides thesp33、eech recognition function. In vehicles with anavigation system(CCC),the speechprocessing is integrated in the CCC.The SBX High can only be used in vehicleswith a MOST bus.Since the SBX High is an expansion of theprevious SBX,only the USB/audio interface isdescribed in more detail in the following.13934、Input/output diagram for USB/audiointerface6-The USB/audio interface in the R55IndexExplanationIndex start(MSA),intelligentgenerator control and gearshift point displaysare integrated in the R55/R56,with the aim ofreducing the CO2 emissions. Two new features have therefore beenintegrated in th47、e area of display and controlelements:Gearshift point display MSA buttonGearshift point displayThe gearshift point display recommends themost fuel-efficient gear for the current roadsituation. The engine control unit calculatesthe most economic gear based on the currentspeed and car acceleration. If t48、hisrecommended fuel-efficient gear is differentto the gear currently in use,a correspondinggear-change message is issued in theSteering Column Cluster(SCC).The gearshift points are calculated based onthe load and driving speed. For each gearshift,e.g.from first to second gear,a characteristiccurve is49、 stored in the engine control unit.Thesame applies for downshifts. From a load ofapprox.50%and above, the gearshiftinstructions are delayed. This prevents thedriver from being irritated by prompts toupshift too early during fast acceleration.Thegearshift point display can be activated/deactivated using50、 the BC button on thesteering column. The BC button must bepressed for 3 seconds while the distance isdisplayed in the SCC.12-Gearshift point display in the SCC229MSA buttonFrom August 2007,automatic engine stopand start(MSA)will be integrated into all R55and R56 vehicles with manual transmission.The51、 MSA button can only be operated if theengine was started using the Start-Stopbutton.The MSA button can be used tomanually deactivate the MSA function. In thiscase, the LED in the MSA button isilluminated. The MSA is reactivated followingeach power cycle or if the MSA button ispressed again. The signal 52、from the MSA button is read by thejunction box and forwarded to the enginecontrolsystem.Theindicatorlampisactivatedby the junction box.For more information, see the separateproduct information MSA automatic enginestop and start.Adjusting the sensitivity of the rain sensorFrom August 2007,the sensitiv53、ity of the raindriving light sensor can be adjusted in all R55and R56 vehicles using the BC button.Without the rain sensor, the intermittent wiperoperation has a fixed interval. With the rain sensor, the wiper operation iscontrolledautomaticallydependingontherainintensity and the sensitivity setting.Th54、eprocedureforcallingthismenuisidenticalto calling the Personal Profile functions(callusing the BC button and displayed in theSCC).The sensitivity of the rain sensor canthen be set to four different levels.13-MSA button in the centre console14-Display for the sensitivity of the rain sensor in the SCC55、.239Modified activation of intermittent wipeIntermittent wipe was previously activated bypushing the wiper control lever upwards.Inorder to standardize the method of operation, the intermittent wipe is now activated bypressing the button on the wiper control lever.TheoperationisthesameasoperatingtheB56、Cbutton on the steering column. The fact thatintermittent wipe is activated is not indicatedby an LED.Pressing the button againdeactivates intermittent
